Last December, I was suffering from really sore, dry and itchy adult acne and the only thing that had worked for me was antibiotics from the doctors, which I had been using on and off for a number of years. My skin was amazing whilst on them and for 4-6 months afterwards, but the acne just kept coming back!
Following a recommendation, I made an appointment to see Tania. At my initial appt, we talked about key events through the years that I could maybe link to my acne flare ups.
My initial consultation lasted over an hour and I walked away with a lot of information as to what was causing my acne and a variety of supplements to build my immune system and improve my gut health. (I had previously completed an intolerance test which identified my intolerance to cow’s milk, so I had stopped eating foods containing cows milk).
I have to admit, I was dubious whether this would work, but knowing that Tania had managed her own adult acne, this gave me hope and the motivation to give it a try. After two months, I hadn’t really seen any change to my skin, Tania asked about my diet, I had struggled to cut out some of the foods she advised me too, and after an honest conversation with her, I knew I had to listen, I had been still eating all the foods that were promoting my poor gut health, and I needed to starve my gut of these.
A diet of no dairy, wheat, yeast, together with a low carb, low sugar and high fat diet was really really hard for someone who loved carbs and sugar, however I said to myself, ‘I will give it 6 months’, so on 24th February 2023 the new diet started!! It was far from easy, and there were so many days I wanted to give up, but I kept the end goal in mind. I was losing weight that I couldn’t afford to lose, but at the same time, I had so much more energy from cutting out the carbs and processed food!
In June, there were moments where I saw slight improvements to my skin, in July I also tweaked my skincare routine, then towards the 6-month mark of the new diet together with the supplements, I started to see definite improvements and by the end of August my skin was acne free!!!
I am so pleased; it is now mid-November and my skin remains acne free! I get the odd spot but I no longer have to leave the house with a face full of makeup and feeling anxious that everyone is staring at my acne.
This solution is far from a quick fix, (unlike the doctor prescribed antibiotics which took 3 weeks), however it is truly a more sustainable solution which has improved my gut health and diet longer term. It’s scary how much sugar, carbs and processed foods I used to eat, and although I am introducing these foods back into my diet, I monitor the amount.
I want to thank Tania so so much for her expertise, kind words, support and motivation, she was able to rationalise why I may not have seen results as soon as both of us would have wanted along the journey, but gave me her word I would be acne free before the end of 2023, and she certainly kept her word!!
For anyone suffering from acne, I would highly recommend Tania’s approach, if you are prepared to listen to and act on her advice, you too could achieve sustained acne free skin 😊.
