Vibrant Wellness Clinic in Darlington is proud to be recognised globally by both the International Association for Colon Hydrotherapy and the Global Professional Association for Colon Therapy:
In the modern world, our bodies are put under a lot of strain every day. With processed foods, pollution, alcohol, artificial colours and flavourings and mental stress from our busy lives, many of us suffer from unpleasant physical symptoms such as insomnia, indigestion, constipation, bloating and lethargy. This is often caused by a build up of toxins in the colon, which are then reabsorbed by the body, leading to a general feeling of unwellness.
If you want to feel more energised and remove the toxins from your body in a safe, relaxing way, then colonic hydrotherapy at Vibrant Feeling could be the answer you are looking for.
Colonic hydrotherapy, also known as colonic irrigation, is a rejuvenating treatment that will leave you feeling lighter, healthier and more energised. The aim of the treatment is to remove built-up waste from the colon and help to improve its function, improving wellbeing and health.
The way the treatment works is that warm water is gently infused into the colon. The water removes encrusted waste that has built up over the years and cleanses the colon, enabling it to absorb nutrients more easily and function more efficiently. Unlike an enema, this treatment reaches the entire length of the colon, providing much more effective and thorough cleansing.
Benefits of Colon Hydrotherapy Treatments
- Clears away built up waste and toxins, allowing the colon to function more efficiently and preventing toxins from being reabsorbed
- May hydrate the colon
- Gets rid of more waste than the colon can deal with on its own
- Is much more effective than an enema, because it reaches the whole length of the colon
- Can reduce bloating, creating a slimmer appearance, and help with weight loss
- Can help to improve quality of sleep and boost energy
- Can help to regulate bowel movements and relieve constipation
- Can help to alleviate the symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome
- Can improve the complexion, help with skin conditions like eczema and make your skin look clearer and brighter

What are the benefits of these treatments?
The Colonic treatments are aimed at restoring balance in the body, through clearing out built-up waste matter through the use of enemas and colon hydrotherapy. These Colonic Irrigation/Hydrotherapy treatments may relieve the pain of IBS, improve the function of your digestive system, increase energy levels and so much more.
Do I need to do anything before my appointment?
If you are having colon hydrotherapy and want to optimise its beneficial effects, make sure to drink plenty of water and avoid alcoholic or fizzy drinks for a few days before your appointment. On the day, it is strongly recommend that you arrive early so you feel relaxed and not rushed; this will make your treatment much easier and more effective.
How many treatments will I need?
Every person is unique and has their own individual circumstances which will affect the number of treatments they require. I am attentive to the specific requirements of each client to ensure I can provide the most effective treatment plan for each person.
Is colon hydrotherapy safe? Will it hurt?
The treatment is completely safe and will be carried out by a fully qualified therapist. I am extremely stringent about hygiene; I meticulously sterilise the equipment and use filtered water, and contact equipment is disposable and used only once. The tube itself is very small, no larger than your little finger. The treatment is not painful – you may feel some slight discomfort as built-up waste leaves your body, but afterwards the majority of people experience a pleasant sensation of lightness and relief.
Will I be embarrassed?
I encourage my clients to share any concerns they may have, and I will do all I can to put you at ease. I am a Specialist in the field of colonic irrigation and digestive disorders and am a very understanding therapist . You will be safe in a private room, and your feelings and modesty will be respected throughout the whole process.
Will colon hydrotherapy cure my digestive problems? Can it help me to lose weight?
The treatment is a great tool to use in combination with an overall healthy lifestyle, but if used on its own it is not a cure-all solution. If a person eats poorly and takes no exercise then hydrotherapy can only do so much. For long-lasting health and wellbeing, we advise our clients to consider their overall lifestyle, diet and exercise regime. Hydrotherapy can help with weight loss because it removes waste matter and trapped gas, reduces bloating and helps to improve the function of the colon – many people find this makes weight loss easier and complements their diet.
What equipment do you use to perform colon hydrotherapy? How is it done?
I use the closed system, which means the I will be with you from the beginning to the end of the process. You will be asked to lie down on a massage bed; once you are comfortable, the tube will be inserted. The water will then be gently introduced into the colon. I will be attentive and in control throughout the entire treatment, adjusting the temperature and pressure of the water as needed to make sure the treatment is as effective as possible for you.
The equipment that is used the state of the art Toxygen Machine. It offers the highest level of filtration and ensures that the water is as pure as possible. It has features such as a solid carbon block filter, ultraviolet protection and double particle filtration, which means colourings, odours and 99.9% of waterborne bacteria are removed. Its stable temperature control feature ensures safety for both the client and the therapist, and the machine is used in combination with a single-use disposable speculum pack for optimum hygiene.
Before your colon hydrotherapy begins, I will decide your unique combination of massage, heatpads or maybe the use of aromatherapy oils. This will help the healing source to completely flow through your body, helping your organs to function at their peak, improving sleep, relieving stress and constipation and helping to ease digestive symptoms.
What would my doctor say about colon hydrotherapy?
Most practitioners of conventional medicine dismiss the benefits of this treatment. This is generally for three reasons: they argue that the body can expel waste by itself, so hydrotherapy is unnecessary; that the water washes away essential minerals and bacteria like Lactobacillus Acidophilus from the colon; and that practitioners who aren’t properly trained can cause physical injuries to the bowel and rectum when inserting the tube, or by introducing too much water too quickly.
In short, conventional medicine mostly states that not only are there no advantages to colonic irrigation, but that it can even pose a danger to health. Here we will address these three concerns.
Firstly, if the body can remove waste adequately by itself, there would not be such a high demand for laxatives. Many people regularly experience constipation and other problems with their digestive process, which is why huge numbers of people buy laxatives from the chemist. Colon hydrotherapy can be used as an alternative treatment for these issues. In years gone by, when most people had physical jobs and no access to processed food, their bodies probably could expel enough waste on their own, but with modern lifestyles many of us need a little more help to rid ourselves of built-up toxins and waste.
Secondly, after a person has undergone colon hydrotherapy, their therapist will recommend that they take an Acidophilus supplement to restore the balance of healthy bacteria that may have been washed away from the gut during treatment. Antibiotics also kill these healthy bacteria, but doctors do not recommend that patients take Acidophilus after taking antibiotics.
Lastly, it is true that a practitioner may cause injuries if they do not carry out the treatment correctly. When you choose a fully trained and qualified colonic hydrotherapist, such as the ones here at Vibrant, you have no cause for concern. Colon Hydrotherapy courses are all postgraduate, and the student must be either qualified in conventional medicine or have graduated from a recognised complementary medicine course. The practitioner must have studied anatomy and physiology for at least two years, and have at least two years of practical experience providing other complementary therapies. In other words, professional colonic hydrotherapists are extremely knowledgeable about the body and highly trained at what they do, and they know how to administer the treatment safely.
Colon hydrotherapy offers many great benefits, helping you to feel and look your best. Everyone will experience the treatment in different ways; it is not possible to predict the exact outcome, as it varies so much from person to person. However, some of the most commonly experienced benefits include:
- A flatter stomach and reduction in bloating and discomfort
- Better quality of sleep
- Increased focus and mental clarity
- An overall feeling of improved health and wellbeing
- Strengthening of the colon muscles
Some people may experience a “healing crisis” after their colon cleansing therapy, which means they will feel worse before the positive effects begin to kick in. This is completely normal and is the result of built-up toxins being cleared out of the colon. A healing crisis can actually be a good sign, as it shows the treatment is doing its work. Possible symptoms of a healing crisis include:
- Headaches and feelings of tiredness and lethargy
- Increased need to urinate
- Symptoms similar to the common cold
- No bowel movements for a few days – this indicates that the person has a slow transit time (the length of time from eating food to excreting it)
Colon hydrotherapy alone will not provide you with optimum, health; it is important to take responsibility for your own wellbeing, alongside regular treatments. This includes adjusting your diet and lifestyle in order to reap maximum benefits. Our aftercare advice will help you to get the most from colon hydrotherapy.
It is best not to overload your digestive system immediately before or after hydrotherapy, so stick to a light meal on the day of your treatment and do not eat for two hours before your appointment. In the 24 to 48 hours before coming in for treatment, we recommend sticking to fruits, vegetables and grains, preferably organic and seasonal. Make sure to drink plenty of water at all times, too. The body requires at least two litres of water daily, so it is important to stay well hydrated.
After the session is completed, your colon will have been emptied of waste and the muscles are likely to make movements which will leave you feeling relaxed and empty. As we mentioned, during the few days after treatment you may not have a bowel movement; you may also be more sensitive than usual to the foods you eat. Keep yourself comfortable by drinking lots of water and avoiding foods which produce gas or cause allergic reactions, such as beans, sprouts, cabbage, broccoli, onions and peppers. Avoid tea, coffee, fizzy drinks, alcohol and sugary or fatty foods. If you have Candida albicans, avoid fruit for a few days too. We suggest sticking to green vegetables, herbal teas, berries, poultry, fish and whole grains. Of course, water is vital, so keep drinking plenty of it.
Probiotics are very important for colon health, helping to maintain regular function and reducing the risk of colon cancer. Probiotic supplements will make a valuable addition to your diet while you are having colon hydrotherapy as well aiding general health.
